Firesides
We often get specific requests for preset Themes at programs and firesides, but occasionally we get a repeat theme. Here are a few of our favorites -
(Each of these firesides are 40-50 minutes in length and include 5-6 original songs interspersed with personal experiences, scriptures, or quotes/stories from LDS church leaders.)
“Feed Me to the Lions” (aka - Eternal Perspective. We did this one for a CES Institute Fireside at SLCC about holding to the rod even when we’re discouraged, etc. I share a story at the beginning about one of my little girls’ ideas of a good punishment…)
“Spiritual 72-Hour Kit” or “Drop In the Bucket” (We’ve done this fireside for Stake Relief Society Programs, and it could easily be adapted for youth. It’s about tools we can use to be prepared spiritually for whatever life may bring.)
“Song of the Heart” (This one focuses on music and how GOOD music can help us grow closer to the spirit and enjoy the comfort, courage, joy, peace, etc that come from it.)
“Steadfast and Immovable” (This one’s about standing for the truth, even if you have to do it alone sometimes - based on a talk to the youth by Elder Bednar.)
“Courage to Carry On” (This is a fireside I did for my Stake Trek last year about lessons taught by the pioneers - the value of sacrifice. Julieann and I met in Upstate NY and our temple was Palmyra, so we like to include stories we’ve heard from the area that is so rich in LDS church history.)
“The House of God” (We did this one for a girls’ camp focusing on the importance of the temple and how it applies to youth - this was during the Oquirrh Mountain Temple Open House and I shared a couple of very appropriate experiences I had serving there during that neat time.)
“Remember” (This is based on the talk given by Elder Eyring a few years ago encouraging us to write down moments when we specifically felt the hand of the Lord in our lives. We combine this with the talk by Elder Bednar about “Tender Mercies” and noticing the small miracles.)
“Man of Galilee” (This fireside program focuses on the life of the Savior and applying the lessons He taught to our own lives.)
“The Spirit of Broadway” (In this program, we do a variety of familiar Broadway showtunes from popular musicals including “The Sound of Music”, “Les Miserables”, “Wicked”, and “Carousel”. We focus on the positive power of music and the lessons learned by the characters in these musicals. We also touch on how good music can bring us closer to the spirit.)
We also have had a lot of fun doing Christmas Programs -
(These Firesides tend to be more music and less talk!)
“The Stories of Christmas”
(This program includes several familiar Christmas Songs and stories about them or about the musicians who wrote them. Songs include “Silver Bells”, “Silent Night”, “O Holy Night”, “Hark the Herald”, “In the Bleak Midwinter” and a few original songs by Mindy and Julieann.)
“Winter WANDER-Land” (We did this one for a Singles Ward Christmas Party. This includes more familiar secular songs and a few silly originals, in addition to some sacred Christmas favorites.)
